Weekly Wrap-Up -> May 13-17

Spring is here!
Here's a look at what we did this week:

Symmetrical Butterfly
Can you make both side of the butterfly symmetrical?  We used loose parts and let students explore.

Building with Wedgits
Whenever we put out these Wedgits the students love them!  A parent donated them years ago but I have seen them online (Amazon) and in some toy stores.

Strawberry Squish - Playdough Centre
At our Playdough Centre we left out this activity - roll "strawberries" (or balls of Playdough) and read subtraction question.  Squish the strawberries that you don't need to solve the question.

You can find this in my Subtraction in Kindergarten pack on TpT.

Planting!
We left out soil, shovels, seeds and bulbs for students to explore planting!

Syllable Sort
We play lots of games together in class and Syllable Sort is one of our favourites!
Students put on these gardening gloves (I labelled them "1" and "2" so they choose one of each and put them on).  They choose a card and clap and count the syllables.
After playing a few times, I set up the same activity at our Pocket Chart centre.

You can find this activity in my Syllable Sort pack on TpT.

Canadian Coins
This week we introduced our new unit in math - Canadian Coins.
I started by showing the class my wallet and the money I had inside.  We talked about "bills" and "coins".  What an interesting conversation we had about what money is, where it comes from, how it's made and more!
I also read this amazing book to the students as we started to build our pocket chart all about coins - names and values.

In small groups, we had students spend time looking closely at coins and sort them.

These activities are from my Canadian Coins in Kindergarten pack on TpT.

*Many people have been asking if I will come out with a US Coins pack - stay tuned!  I'm working on that now.  I will add it as a FREE ZIP file to the Kindergarten Math Bundle if you already own that.  I'll also be uploading the Measurement in Kindergarten pack by next weekend so be sure to re-download.*

We also recited poems to help us learn the names and values of each coin.
You can download these posters for FREE by clicking on the picture below.
*BOTH CANADIAN AND US COINS INCLUDED*
(This is a ZIP file so you can choose which file you would like to download)

Sight Words
I love to leave out activities/provocations/centres that focus on reading and spelling sight words.
Students could use old keyboards to type in and spell sight words.

We used these large chalkboards to "paint" sight words with water.

You can download these sight word cards for FREE by clicking on the picture below.

Here are my weekly plans if you'd like to take a closer look:
You can download the Week-at-a-Glance PDF version{here}.
If you would like the editable version to modify this for your own class click {here}.
You will need Power Point to edit.
I used the following fonts if you wish to keep it the same (free to download):
