Weekly Wrap-Up -> June 17-21...counting down with 1 week to go!

There's only one week left before summer starts!  This week we left out provocations that students helped create (which were previous favourites this year!).

CLOCK PROVOCATION
Students were invited to build a clock using loose parts (rocks, Popsicle sticks).

BUILD A LETTER TREE
The story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a class favourite!  Students loved building their own alphabet tree using loose parts.

STAMPING CVC WORDS
I got this stamping set years ago from Wintergreen Learning.  Students stamp and fill in the missing letter to spell the CVC word.

PLAY DAY
We also had Play Day this past week...here are some fun activities we set up for the K-Gr. 3 students.

STUDENT GIFTS
With the end of the year quickly approaching, Mrs. Petrone (ECE) and I have been busy prepping gifts for our students.
Our Year 2 students are leaving us and heading to Gr. 1 so we always do something special for them.  I took their photo outside on the brick wall and asked them what their favourites are.
I used PowerPoint to turn them into personalized pictures and then put them in frames.

TELLING TIME UNIT
We started our final math unit of the year, Telling Time.  This week we explored the characteristics of a clock using this giant clock I made out of a shower curtain.

We also took a look at our day and used these cards to add the time so students could refer back to them throughout the day.

How long is 1-minute?  We explored this concept by using these 1-minute challenge cards.  We used a sand timer for 1 minute and tried various activities.

I just posted my NEW Telling Time in Kindergarten Unit on TpT if you'd like to see more.

Here are my weekly plans if you'd like to take a closer look:

Weekly Wrap-Up -> June 10-14....Our K Growing Celebration and more!

We celebrated our Year 2 (SK) Kindergarten children this week at our Growing Celebration.  Here are a few pictures...

We had a sketch artist named Cartoon Bob draw our students.  He was amazing!

FATHER'S DAY SPICE RUB
We made this spice rub in a jar a few years ago and they were a hit!  This year, we took photos of our students using the Green Screen!

BROWN BEAR RETELL
We are focusing on favourite stories, provocations and centres to wrap up our year.  The class loved the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear so we left out a provocation to retell it.

FINE MOTOR - PICK UP BUGS
This pick up bugs set from Wintergreen Learning came with these large tongs which I love as a way for students to work on fine motor skills.

LETTER PRINTING
We invited students to print letters in the sand using correct formation.  I didn't have any Kinetic Sand left (which is my favourite!) so instead I added some water to the regular sand!  Worked well!

SPELLING CVC WORDS - POCKET CHART
The Pocket Chart Centre is always fun so this week I decided to make a challenging activity...students were invited to use the letter cards to spell CVC words.

I just posted this activity in my TpT store if you'd like to check it out.

WHAT I AM GOOD AT....
We focused on what students are good at and what they might be when they grow up this week.
Since this tied so well with our Growing Celebration, we decided to read some books and focus on the amazing accomplishments of each of our students this year!
Some of my favourite books are What I Do Best! and Dream You'll Be.
We left out this writing paper encouraging students to draw and write about all that they can do and what they have improved on this year!

Weekly Wrap-Up -> June 3-7...The Final Countdown!

With only a few weeks left of school, the final countdown has begun!
This month we are revisiting some of our favourite provocations and centres from during the year.

SHAPE PICTURES
Our students love to use the iPad to document their work and this provocation, using pattern blocks to create pictures, was a hit earlier in the year.

LETTER TRACING APP
I discovered this letter tracing app last year when I needed an activity for my Fine Motor group.
The app is called "ABCs Kids Alphabet Handwriting" and it's a free download.

NUMBER PUZZLES
These wooden number puzzles are from Wintergreen Learning.  Our students love to put the numbers in order!

ROLL~SAY~KEEP
This is one of our favourite games!  I use it with both whole group and small group lessons.  This week we left it out as a provocation.
Here's how to play:
- set up the game:  place one sight word in each box
- roll the number die
- read the word and keep it!
- replace it with another word and keep on playing

*Best thing is, you can use this template with lots of other things too!  We have played with magnetic letters, numbers, number cards, vocabulary, etc.*

GO RAPTORS!!!
With the Toronto Raptors in the finals, it's basketball fever at our school!

We have been practicing quite a bit this past week as it's our Growing Celebration this coming Tuesday.  I'll be sure to post lots of pictures this week on Instagram!
